Started as a physical education teacher but decided he didn't like it.
After showing off during a college track race, somebody invited him to do stripping at a Kansas City gay bar.
He was performance dancing with a girl in San Francisco when he was approached to do photography work. Although he felt he was approachable, his photography ended up having a surly look to it. Later he was asked to do movies. He did still pictures and film for Athletic Model Guild but Bob Mizer said the film was stolen 'by a close friend.'
He was asked if he was going to join the trend of marketing himself like Peter Berlin or Jack Wrangler but he said he didn't want to do that. He specifically chose to do gay porn because he would stand out there.
Was married in 1975. He returned to New York by at least 1977 where he was unable to get work for lack of useable job history. He had to fall back on hustling where his drugged life style got the better of him.
Director Jack Deveau said, of Eld, that "he's just a mess; he's time-consuming and moribund, but you couldn't ask for more on celluloid—a man in the full bloom of muscular beauty."
