Leo traced his sexual awakening to second grade when he noticed his attraction for boys. He had two brothers with which there were some liaisons but both of them married had families and divorced.
In San Diego, Ford picked up on yoga and meditation. He spent some time in India studying and practiced celibacy for the heightened experience.
Onetime lover to Jamie Wingo. Introduced to the business by Scott Andersen. He was approached for nude photos and originally turned the offer down but decided he needed the money. He turned to J. Brian for advice and Brian eventually made a movie with him and Leo used his lover Jamie for his first on film pairing. This was Flashbacks but Style was the first Ford film released although it was the third one he filmed.
Lived for a time with J. Brian when starting out. Performed a live show at the Follies at 48th and Broadway in Manhattan. Had his own mail order business for selling his work.
In the film I Am Divine (2013), Ford was described has having a many year relationship with Divine.
Ironically, he played a motorcycle accident victim in Games only to die on a motorcycle given to him by William Higgins after filming Class Reunion. Ford and Craig Markle had founded Leo Ford Presents to market Leo's work. Just before Ford's death, he and Markle had been working on a documentary of the physique era.
