In silhouette, two young men embrace against the moonlit night that fills their bedroom. One murmurs, "Think we could turn on the light? I hate doin' it in the dark." The other instantly obliges him, and the room is filled with soft, warm light. Thus begins Too Good to Be True, director Derek Kent's charming little tale of two lovers and what happens when one of them has to go out of town for a few days, leaving the other all alone with his raging hormones and nervous erection. The two lovers are played by blond Hunter James and brunet Trevor Knight, but it is Mr. Knight upon whom the film focuses. He appears in three of its four scenes, and he is superb in each of them.

Gay adult film stars usually fall into one of two categories: (1) the cynosures of unattainable perfection that seem to be fantasies come to life; and (2) the ideally average hunks who have come down from Mount Olympus to be the man next door, the president of the senior class or the guy nursing a beer in the neighborhood bar. These are the ones whose enhanced reality suggests that they could indeed be attainable.

Mr. Knight falls into the second category. With his lean, swimmer's body, his brown hair in a modified Caesar-cut and his rich, butch voice, Knight is at once both ordinary and extraordinary. And when he shifts into sexual gear, he is simply amazing. His piercing eyes would melt the resolve of a born again Christian; his overactive tongue has all the playful energy of a baby platypus; and his amazingly long, hard, tubular dick is, as the title suggests, almost "too good to be true." But it is not only his array of physical attributes that make him the stuff of which superstars are made; there is also his attitude toward sex. The next scene apparently begins the next morning. As he is doing dishes, Knight observes these guys next door (brunet Rusty Wood and blond Trae Spencer) going at it on the picnic table in their backyard. He slips out of the house to spy on them through the cross-hatched fence that separates the yards and in no time has pulled his own restless rod out of his jeans to enjoy a bit of neighborly voyeurism.

It's just as well that he has been added to the scene, for the Wood-Spencer action is the most formulaic in the film. Both are standard twinkies who go through their paces by rote. First, Wood sucks an almost inert Spencer (flat on his back, his eyes closed). They make no sounds and shift positions, as if on cue, for bottled blond Spencer to reciprocate. When they fuck, it is uninspired, and neither money shot is notable. Thank God videographer Ross Cannon's camera keeps cutting away to Knight's solo action, which is hotter than the duet he is watching, especially his prolonged money shot.

That evening, after several attempt to score on the Internet -- Knight rejects one arrival, the second one rejects him -- the camera follows the second one (Ryan Hard, a cuddly, hairy, streaked blond who is more teddy bear than bear) into an assignation with a street pick-up (Jacob Ridely, a thin, brunet, natural-born bottom) who takes him home to share with his roommate (Cade Devlin, whose hair is currently platinum white). For the anal action, Hunter first drills into Ridely standing doggie, then is followed by Hard, who willingly takes sloppy seconds in Ridely's accommodating ass before Hunter claims it once more. Certainly, Hunter is the one who paces the scene, but it is Hard who remains the center of attention.

The fourth and final vignette unfolds when the telephone man arrives. He is played by Jason Harley, a well-muscled, blue-collar type who handles Knight's flesh much better than he does his few lines of dialogue. After a delightfully comic sequence in which Knight keeps offering to help, the action finally erupts when Harley is poised on a ladder and Knight stands below him to steady it, his face practically in the guy's crotch. Soon both hard cocks are out, and Knight is once again demonstrating his oral skills. Harley is no slouch at cocksucking either, and the head-giving simmers along nicely. Throughout, each has a wicked grin on his face as they race through the naughty-boy suck-games.

Still, there is the not-to-be-missed bravura performance delivered by Mr. Knight, and it is so satisfying that one almost forgives the film its 82-minute brevity.
