Scott started by making straight porn although (according to his long time collaborator Tom Howard) he was gay. Then he saw his competition in the likes of Deep Throat and decided he would not be able to compete and moved to gay porn. Scott didn't like long filming and claimed he never took more than 2½ days to film anything. He also didn't like music during the sex scenes. He wouldn't use limp dicks and expected the performers to perform for the camera rather than do what came naturally. He also felt that big dicks had gotten too much play and used some conventional sized ones without regret.
Scott said that he preferred older models like Al Parker and Jack Wrangler because they were his community and they were easier to work with. After a man asked him why he didn't put love emotions in his films, he did just that as in Track Meet and Wanted.
Steve also had a non-porn film career with his name in the credits and didn't feel ashamed of his porn work adding that porn work was actually a way to break into the film industry. After an car accident while filming R.J. and the Kid, he didn't film again for a year and refused to finish it calling it "a bad omen."
Scott made three straight films: China and Silk, Too Good to be True and Trashy Lady. He had a falling out with Al Parker and Mark Reynolds in the mid-eighties and never made another film with them but only made three more.
Note from Madd Coww:
The best director of retro gay porn films. If Steve Scott directed it, you can be sure it's hot and it's well-made. Al Parker learned much from Steve Scott, who directed Al in his best films (Inches and Wanted). In addition to those two films, Steve also directed Screen Play, Gold Rush Boys, A Few Good Men, Dangerous, Track Meet, and 2 x 10. Any of those retro films are still worth seeing for their erotic content, and not merely for their historical interest.
