Founded by Jim French, a.k.a. Rip Colt, and Lou Thomas, a.k.a. Jon Target, in 1967 in New York, they moved from art drawings to photographs to films. Thomas left for L.A. to found Target Studios in 1974 and Colt distributed his first catalog mailing.
Sold to John Rutherford (from Falcon) and Tom Settle in 2003 for $2.2 million. In 2010 the two filed for personal bankruptcy and the company filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy as sales notably declined.
