In a write-up in 1982, Jon said that at age 18, while living in Florida, he had written to Jack Deveau to get into porn but Deveau declined. Later, when in Hollywood he gave hitchhiker Jamie Wingo a ride to William Higgins' office and ended up being signed up by Higgins. He meet Higgins at 1:30 and asked when he could work. Higgins wasn't going to let this one slip between his fingers so he told King to come back at 5:00 to film which was used in Brothers Should Do It.
Sometimes billed as the younger brother of J.W. King for his first two productions, Brothers Should Do It and These Bases Are Loaded. He was not.
Jon briefly fell out of the scene when he spent nearly a year in jail in Florida for theft after These Bases Are Loaded and before his 1983 comeback.
In 1984 he claimed he was sick of the business and would never do it again. Not that he wouldn't have ever done it but would have done it differently.
Several writers described him as very intelligent. One anecdote has him regularly studying math and science for college at Chaps bar in New York as his boyfriend chased off pursuers.
Writers describe him as not being a gym bunny, and not into drugs and alcohol. He tended to alter his appearance to avoid recognition.
