Michael Kearns took a number of roles in mainstream acting. He came out as HIV positive after his lover died of AIDS in 1992. After that he also made news after adopting a baby girl.
He was the model on the front cover of "The Happy Hustler" by Grant Tracy Saxon. The book was pure fiction written by his lover at the time but Kearns authorship was fictional too. Kearns kept secret the fiction that he had written this 'biography' for many years and even talked about a sequel: "Beneath the Happy Hustler."
Performed in theater shows: Rusty along with Jack Wrangler, The Dirtiest Show in Town (nude) and, along with Casey Donovan, in Jerry Douglas' Tubstrip (nude). He also had a part as the older brother of John Boy in The Waltons, a part that was written out when a college theme was not welcomed by the audience. Other mainstream TV work included Cheers, Murder She Wrote and Days of Our Lives.
He worked with Jack Wrangler in a gay version of Camile.
In his biography he says that his porn performance in L.A. Tool and Die was not his first but does not name any other titles.
