Parker came out at the ripe age of 22. He had won a contest on the Name That Tune TV show and took a girl he met on the beach to New York with the winnings. Talking about his problems with his sexual preference, she said no problem. She was bisexual and the two of them picked up guys in the Village and entertained themselves. After the trip, he met Steve Taylor on the same beach and they were together until Taylor's death. Parker studied pre-med then film making. Parker got into porn after being set up on a hustle. The client connected to model for Colt, who apologized for using someone that didn't have their usual look. Colt also chose the name Al Parker which 'Parker' didn't like at first. The fan response launched him into his porn career. That career ended up conflicting with his original goal of working in the entertainment industry but he chose to stick to the porn work. In interviews, Parker professed not to understand what his popular sexual appeal was about. He did not like crowds, didn't drink, dance or do drugs. He refused offers to strip for his film premiers and said he would rather talk to his fans fully clothed but it was not because of shyness for being naked. Parker said that he was inspired to get into porn after visiting Hugh Hefner in his home and seeing how much money was made on magazines. His first nude modeling was for Colt. He offered to work exclusively with Colt Studio in return for 1% of the profits and was turned down so he figured that he could start up his own studio. Steve Scott pointed out Al Parker at a party to Tom Desimone and Tom managed to get Al in a film before Scott did. Scott said "Al has it all; his acting's convincing, he's more than capable in the sex scenes, he has never been opposed to doing anything, he's very agreeable, he sets no limitations, and he even shows up for early calls and he lives way down at the beach!" After working with Colt Studios, he started up Surge Studios with Steve Taylor. After Taylor died, Parker sold the rights to Surge films and moved from their shared home in Hermosa Beach to San Francisco. With Keith Reiter he started Surge back up. Some time in 1990 or before, Parker had his foreskin reconstructed. In a 1996 Manshots interview Ed Wiley said that Al pulled his van up to Ed on Castro Street, opened the side door and jerked himself. Fortunately the straight couple with Ed were not outraged. In Oct. 1988, Parker appeared on the Phil Donahue show. |
