Derek:
J. Brian’s Tuesday Morning Workout was his first release after returning to the mainland U.S. after fleeing in 1972 from his San Francisco homebase to Hawaii. He was trying to avoid charges of solicitation (he ran an escort service for several years) and conspiracy to produce obscene materials. According to Samuel Steward’s (aka Phil Andros’) biographer Justin Spring, the main witness against J. Brian for the obscenity charges was his frequent model, Joe Markum. Upon returning to California in 1974, and with charges against him dropped, Brian had his revenge against Markum by finishing and releasing this film (filmed in 1972, released in 1975), which was originally intended to be a follow-up to Four More Than Money. The storyline was built around the sexual goings-on at a gay gym operated by Dean Chasson and featuring footage of Markum and several other performers. Indeed, Ronnie the towel boy clearly introduces Markum’s character as Phil Andros in Scene 3.
